Christopher Illopoly is a British author and occultist. He is best known for his Traveling at Night series, in which he describes his travels of the Mansus.
Life[]
Christopher Illopoly was born in 1888 or 1889.[1] He lived at a Bristol orphanage for an unknown amount of time.[1] When Illopoly was fourteen, he was adopted by the collector and previous librarian at Hush House, Fraser Strathcoyne.[1] Illopoly then served as Strathcoyne's pupil and protégé for four years.[1] Illopoly describes his relationship with Strathcoyne as complicated.[1] At the age of 18 he left Strathcoyne's household on decent terms, and enrolled at the University of Perugia.[1] He left a year later, without finishing his degree.[1]
After World War I, Illopoly spent some time living at Hush House.[2] By that point his book series Traveling at Night had sold well, allowing him to refurnish the Motley Tower, where he lived.[3] He especially took interest in one of the tower's previous inhabitants, Natan of Regensburg.[4]
In the 1970s, a then privatized Suppression Bureau started to investigate Illopoly.[5][6] This led to him fleeing to Port Noon, via the Hebe Stanton.[6]
Relationship with Teresa Galmier[]
Illopoly is known to have been in a romantic relationship with the Lantern-Name Teresa Galmier. They spent ten years together, before splitting up due to fears of commiting the Crime of the Sky.[7] There are no references to Illopoly entering any other relationship after Galmier, and he seems to still harbour feeling towards her well into his 90s.[8]
