Great Britain is an island, located west of the Continent. A number of locations are scattered about with relevance to the invisible world.
History[]
Early History[]
Little is known of the Roman or pre-Roman time of Great Britain. The pre-Roman Celts were known to worship (probably among others) the Twins[1] and the Colonel.[2] The earliest known presence of the Sisterhood of the Knot in Great Britain dates from Roman times, with them building a temple on Brancrug Isle some time during the third century AD.[3]
In 563, St. Columba travelled to Iona, bringing catholicism to Scotland in some histories.[4] In others, he instead brought the word of the Unconquered Sun,[5] making it the first mention of the religion in Great Britain. After his death, his bones were brought to Brancrug by Rowena.[5]
War of the Roads[]
During the latter half of the 15th century in some histories, a "martial-philosophical" dispute between the two British royal houses of York and Lancaster played out.[6][7][8] The grounds of the dispute stemmed from the two houses favoring two different types of alchemy, with the House of York favoring the Lantern related Dawn Road,[7] while the House of York favored the Forge related Sunset Road.[8] The events that followed are known as the War of the Roads.[6]
The war that erupted following the dispute closely resembles the real life Wars of the Roses. In some histories, the House of Lancaster seem to have won the war, later becoming unbalanced due to their reliance on the Sunset Road and, as a result, amounting to little of note.[8] In other histories the two houses allying to form the Sovereigns of the Leashed Flame[6] (or, The Forge's True Alloy)[8], much like how in real life the two houses allied to form the House of Tudor.
The Sovereigns would go on to conquer large parts of Europe.[6] This reign would continue until the sovereign king of England, Henry VIII, experienced a "Great Misfortune", tarnishing the True Alloy.[9] The Forge of Days and The Sun-in-Splendour refused to renew the alloy,[9] over fears of committing the Crime of the Sky.[10] Henry then tried to search for a way to renew the alloy, with the help of powers beyond the Mansus.[9] This led him to Brancrug, searching for tin,[11] the metal of The Sun-in-Rags.[12] Henry did not succeed in renewing the alloy, and his attempt to cheat The Forge became known as "The Great Debasement".[6] This lead to the end of the Sovereigns, and Henry's heirs turning mortal.[6]
The New King[]
In 1930, Great Britain experienced severe political turmoil due to a constitutional crisis.[13] The crisis stemmed from Edward, heir to the throne of the United Kingdom, killing his father, King George.[14] The crisis concluded with the crowning of a new king, Henry Huddleston Abney-Hastings, 13th Count of Loudoun.[14]
Geography[]
The west of Great Britain has a strong connection with the Bounds, with many locations in the west being describes as lying in it.[15][16][17] The Moon-marches especially is pointed out as a location with a strong occult presence.[18] Interestingly Iona, the origin of the Elegiast,[19] is also located by the western coast of Great Britain.
Settlements[]
