'The Flowermaker cannot harm you;
he cannot find you;
he always has what you desire'
[1]

The Flowermaker is a “greedy power of things too wonderful to bear”. He was born from “sparks of delight” created the first Forbidden Acts of the Forge of Days, and now creates wonderful things—perhaps too wonderful. The Flowermaker promises to fulfill one’s desires, if they are only able to find him.[1][2][3] His aspects are Grail[4] and Lantern.[5][6] His hour is 7 p.m.

Events[]

  • The Forbidden Acts of the Forge: The origins of the Flowermaker are tied to the “first Forbidden Acts of the Forge”. While these acts aren’t explicitly stated, they are mentioned in the context of pleasures so powerful that they “corrupt the laws of the physical world”, with the sparks from the Forge’s pleasure in its work planting the seeds of the Flowermaker in either the Glory or Nowhere, though for a long period he was "nothing but an unfulfilled ache".[3] It's also known that the Flowermaker did not exist long before the Intercalate and before the Forge of Days began to develop her interest in the Sun.[7]

Servants[]

  • Karpellus: A Name of the Flowermaker who appears as part of both paths of the Change ascension.[8]
  • Lord Franklin Bancroft: An initiate taught the art of the Flowermaker by a "rose-witch" named Fionna Ayrshire, who refused Bancroft’s many romantic advances. Bancroft primarily used his knowledge of the occult to entertain guests and pursue whimsical projects before disappearing in 1790.[11][12]

Relationships[]

  • The Red Grail: The Grail was involved in the creation of the Flowermaker[13] possibly by tempting the Forge into involving herself with the Sun-in-Splendour.[14][7] The Flowermaker has been known to visit the Red Church, sacred to the Red Grail, with his promises as well as Amaranthine Nectar, which in other Histories was able to bestow immortality.[15][16]
  • The Chandler: While their exact relationship is currently unclear, it is said that "If flowers are flame, the earth is their fuel" and "the Chandler can bring the spark to ignite the flame".[17] This may imply that the Flowermaker would benefit from the Chandler's coming ascension.

Real-World References[]

  • The Flowermaker takes the place of the Sun in the Tarot of the Hours. The Sun can represent freedom, success, and contentment, and is usually a positive sign of a time to be carefree and confident.
  • Fionna Ayrshire’s last name comes from a region of southwest Scotland.

Other Notes[]

  • The Flowermaker’s themes of flowers, dreams, and intoxicating pleasures likely connect him specifically to the drug opium, which dates back to ancient times and is used as well in Cultist Simulator.[18]
  • In both paths of the Change ascension, the player’s sending in the shape of a fox travels to Foxlily Meadows to learn from the Flowermaker the lesson “Hues, Surrendered.”[19][20][21]
  • The Flowermaker is also one of the Hours which allows the Elixir Zeboim used in the Ghoul Legacy to draw out memories from the dead when consumed, along with the Elegiast and the Crowned Growth.[22]
  • In the Exile legacy, the influence of the Flowermaker can be felt in Granada, Paris, Tirana, Sunshine Island(Bornholm) and the Pentapolis(Ghardaïa).[23]

Theories and Questions[]

  • One theory is that the Forbidden Acts which sparked the birth of the Flowermaker may have been tied to the Forge’s shattering of the Flint, as the first recorded acts of the Forge of Days.
  • For a time it was speculated that the Flowermaker may be one of the Hours born in the Intercalate, but little evidence supports this, and it is generally believed that the four children of the Sun are accounted for in the Meniscate, Sun-in-Rags, Madrugad, and Wolf-Divided. It was latter confirmed that the Flowermaker existed before the Intercalate. [7]
  • The Applebright may be tied to the Flowermaker in some way. The sparks of the Forge were said to take root “in the Glory or Nowhere”.[24] It may be that while the Flowermaker was born in the Glory, the Applebright was born in Nowhere.[25]
